Book Crafts: Book Page Star Tutorial

Today, I am sharing with you a fun bookish craft that will work for Christmas time, New Year’s, or any time of year!

These book page stars are easy to make, but they do take some time (although less time than the book pumpkin). One star took me about an hour- although I imagine with practice the time will diminish.

Supplies:

  • Old book
  • Craft knife or scissors
  • String or yarn for hanger (if you want to hang them)

Step 1

Tear out a few pages from your book. I like the look of the full text pages best. One page will make one point on the star. You will need 5-8 pages per book.

Step 2

Fold the top corner of the page down to the left side of the page to make a square. Crease this fold and cut off the remainder of the page to make a square page. Origami is always done with square pages.

Step 3

star point
This is the angle for the 5 point star.

Follow these instructions to make an origami roulette. If you follow the instruction exactly, you can make the 8 point star. If you want to make a 5 point star, instead of folding along the instructed line in photo 6, fold the paper so that the edge lies flat across the top of the fold rather than at a diagonal angle. This will make the star opening wider and fewer points will fit around the circle. You may have to experiment with the angle a bit to get things to fit snugly.

Step 4fitting stars

Fit the individual star pieces into one another. You have to be quite precise or it doesn’t work properly. If you get a point wrong, use a new book page to make it over again. Refolding usually doesn’t work. If you want the pages to stick together even better, use a dot of glue to hold it all together.

Step 5

Attach a hanger to the back of one of the points to make it hangable. Hang it from anything you like- door knobs, Christmas trees, picture frames, ceiling fans-whatever captures your fancy!
