There are a lot of children’s books out there. There are so many, that it can get overwhelming trying to decide which ones are worth buying. So, I’m here to help you out. I have compiled a list of my favorite children’s books for pre-readers, early readers, and self-sufficient readers. Of course, reading a harder book aloud at any time is encouraged!
Here are the pre-reader books we love. All of these books are kid-approved by my daughter and myself throughout the years.
Pat the Bunny: Something about this old-fashioned book is just fun. Who doesn’t want to feel daddy’s whiskers or put their finger in mommy’s ring?
Perfect Pets: When my daughter was a baby, she wanted to look at this touch and feel book all day, everyday.
Beatrix Potter The Complete Tales: My daughter always liked the story about “The Fierce, Bad Rabbit.”
We’re Going on a Bear Hunt: Fun rhyming and repetitive fun.
Where Is Baby’s Belly Button?: This book amused my daughter to no end.
Mike Mulligan and His Steam Shovel : All kids love this story. I’m not sure why.
Goodnight Moon: This book was my daughter’s all-time favorite for years.
The Complete Adventures of Curious George: Children love stories about naughty pets.
I am a Bunny: Something about this book kept me facinated as a child. I loved counting the ladybugs.
Gallop!: This book is just fun because it has moving pictures.
The Story of Ferdinand: Something about a bull that doesn’t want to fight makes children giggle.
Spot Books: Any Spot story is cute and lovable.
Did I miss any of your favorite pre-reader books?
