I was given a copy of Shady Cross in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own. This post is part of the TLC book tour for Shady Cross.
I haven’t reviewed a thriller in a while, so I was happy to review Shady Cross when given the opportunity. I love a good thriller with substance, suspense, and some moral fiber; and Shady Cross delivered on all points. If you want a solid thriller that won’t make you hate everything about life, then Shady Cross is for you.

Shady Cross Book Summary (from Amazon)
In one hand, small-time crook Stokes holds a backpack stuffed with someone else’s money—three hundred and fifty thousand dollars of it.
In the other hand, Stokes has a cell phone, which he found with the money. On the line, a little girl he doesn’t know asks, “Daddy? Are you coming to get me? They say if you give them the money they’ll let you take me home.”
From bestselling author James Hankins comes a wrenching story of an unscrupulous man torn between his survival instincts and the plight of a true innocent. Faced with the choice, Stokes discovers his conscience might not be as corroded as he thought.
Review: Shady Cross
Shady Cross is the story of a crook faced with a moral dilemma. From the start, this premise sets it apart from other thrillers and may be one reason why Hankins’ books are so well-received.
Shady Cross had many of the hallmarks of standard thriller books: action, crime, fast-paced reading, and numerous secrets, cliffhangers, and build-ups. Shady Cross is an example of a traditional thriller done right. The content of the story- the conflict between making money and doing what is right- was unexpected. Many thrillers I have read have an almost seedy feel, while Shady Cross managed to be uplifting and nearly heartwarming while still retaining a gritty exterior.
The best part of this book was the surprise ending.
All in all, Shady Cross is an excellent thriller and any thrill-seekers should definitely add this book to their TBR piles. It would be the perfect thing to read over a rainy weekend or summer vacation.
