The Spectacular Spider:Man
vs Spiderman and His Amazing Friends
Plot:
Spectacular Spiderman: In this show, Spiderman is in high school and faces all of the normal villains, Dr. Octopus, Electro, Rhino, the Green Goblin and other common villains. Since the show was made recently, the animation is stylized, but I think the acting is good. I actually enjoyed this show. If this is what Disney does for a show after it takes over, I’m not too sad that Disney bought Marvel Comics.
Spiderman and Friends: This version of Spiderman was made in 1981. Spiderman works with Ice Man and a girl called Firestar in this version. I have no idea who Firestar is, but she can shoot fire out of her hands. This version faces many villains that I have never heard of, but Electro, Magneto and the Green Goblin all make an appearance as well.
Similarities: Spiderman seems to be Spiderman throughout the ages. He is quipy, fast on his feet and shoots webs from canisters, rather than directly out of his body. Some of the villains are the same. Other than that, there are few similarities.
Differences: I’m just going to say, TV from the 80s was terrible. The 80s version is slow-paced, silly and seems to defy physics and gravity at an alarming rate. I am also uncomfortable with how much like a naked suit Firestar’s costume is. I think I really prefer Spiderman to work alone. The newer version of the show is classic, and follows the Spiderman storyline much better.
Winner: Of course the new version is much better. I actually bought it for my little girl for Christmas, so don’t tell her! But if you watched the 80s version as a child, you might get a chuckle from watching an episode or two.
