Book: Look! I Can Tie My Shoes!
Author: Susan Hood
Year Published: 2002
Genre: First grade readers
Overall Rating: 3 stars
Target Audience: New readers
Romance: None
Setting: A girl learning to tie her shoes.
Characters: A girl, a salesman and the girl’s mother.
Plot: In this story, a little girl loves every shoe but shoes with laces. She doesn’t like laced shoes because she cannot tie them. Her mother then shows her how to tie the shoes and the girl works until she can tie them herself.
Thoughts: This book is cute and funny, but again, I don’t like the art. The art is cartoon-like and sloppy. It kind of looks like the illustrator drew all the pictures in 10 minutes. I do like the diagram for tying the shoe. That should help some children learn to tie their shoes. All in all, this book is a good one for first grade kids or other children learning to tie their shoes on their own. The words are also simple, which should make reading the story easy.
