Review: Face the Music by Andrea Robbins

Review: Face the Music by Andrea Robbins

Book: Face The Music
Author: Andrea K. Robbins
Year Published: 2012 (in e-book form)
Genre: Adult Romance
Overall Rating: 3 stars
Target Audience: Women
Romance/Sex: PG-13. No explicit mentions of sex.
Setting: I think they are in LA, but I’m not quite sure.
Characters: Alison Banks, her sister Emily, her friend/love interest Jake, her real love interest Chris, and some other minor people.
Plot: A few months ago, Ali’s boyfriend of three years, Paul, suddenly walked out. She was left crushed, and vowed to stay away from men. She gets a job working as a tutor for the TV show “Superstardom,” which is similar to “American Idol.” There she meets Chris Knots, a hot singer who is surprisingly interested in her. She isn’t sure if she is ready for a real relationship, and most of the book is about her struggles to accept a new love.
Thoughts: This book was kind of enjoyable. The characters were mostly believable, even if the plot premise wasn’t. I actually have a hard time distinguishing between the events in this book and the events in “Bridesmaid’s Lotto,” because the two books are similar in that a “regular” girl is pursued by a famous man. This book has no explicit sex scenes, which I prefer in a book. I really feel awkward reading porn-style romantic involvements when I’m sitting in public or in the same room as my children, but that could just be me. :-P At any rate, this book was enjoyable to read, if predicable, and I wouldn’t mind reading more of Andrea K. Robbins’ books.
