I read The Lost World when I was very young. The Lost World was written by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle in 1912. In my mind this story is very similar to Jules Verne stories full of technical adventure and science-related narrative.
In this story a famous scientist returns from somewhere in South America claiming that dinosaurs and other large creatures are real. The main character of the story decides to go along on the adventure to see if the claims are real because his girlfriend refuses to marry him because he is too boring.
So a group of several people explore this region and find all kinds of interesting things.
I feel like this story is probably best for boys. There are few elements that would appeal to girls who are not starved for reading material like I was when I was young. At any rate, the language is very educational and full of words that are no longer used today. It really is an excellent book in that respect.
Anyone who loves to read adventurous stories will enjoy this book.
