When Twilight was extremely popular (around 2009, maybe?), I read the complete series. I have also watched the movies as they came out. I am not a Twilight fan, but it isn't because of the typical reason (that she is a bad writer). I think her writing is just as good as most YA books on the market. The reason I don't particularly care for the series is because I find the plot ridiculous. Even in a universe where vampires would be attracted romantically to humans, I don't think their … [Read more...]

Self-Publishing Wins
I feel like this is an extremely timely subject, because just a few weeks ago I was discussing whether self-publishing still has a bad name. This week, I stumbled across the list of the top-selling ebooks around the world. Guess what? 5 of the 10 best selling ebooks from the end of April were self-published! In fact, 4 of the 5 authors on the list were authors that are completely self-published. One was from a traditional author who "went rogue" and published a book on his … [Read more...]

The Best Books When You’re Feeling Down
So, I don't know about you, but every now and then, I get down in the dumps a little bit. I don't know if its because of work, hormone changes, getting irritated with people, or what, but I'm not always super happy (shocking, right?) Here are some books that I like to read to help myself feel better and escape from reality for a little while: Anything in the Redwall series: These children's books are so charming. I love how rich the text is, and the … [Read more...]

The Changing Digital World: Selling Used Digital Copies
Here is something incredibly interesting and rather confusing that has popped up over the past few months. In October, 2011, the site ReDigi opened. With ReDigi, the goal was to allow users to sell their used digital files to the site, which could then resell the files to another user at a discount. The pricing distribution was 60% for ReDigi, 20% for the original music owner, and 20% for the royalties on the digital file. The system works like this: When you want to get rid of a digital … [Read more...]

The Curse of Self-Publishing?
Just a few years ago, if you self-published anything, you would be laughed out of town when it came to your influence and credibility as a writer. I remember when I was in college, my creative writing teacher was self-published, and I was not impressed, because in my mind, if you had to publish your own stuff, then you basically sucked as a writer. Honesty, I still believe he was a terrible writer, but that could be just because he gave me a "C" in the class. Seriously. I'm still … [Read more...]
