These book movies to watch while folding laundry will make that dreaded chore just a little bit easier.
I hate laundry. If there is a chore I could go my entire life without doing and never feel bad about it, it would be laundry. There is nothing good about that chore. Folding and hanging clothes is such a waste of time. Time I could be reading books!
But because I have a family and I don’t have endless money, laundry must be done.
I like to make my laundry folding sessions as painless as possible my finding book movies to watch while folding laundry. I usually prefer funny, classic, or sappy book movies to watch while folding laundry. These movies are easy to follow when you’re not really paying complete attention to the movie.
Book Movies to Watch While Folding Laundry
My favorite movie picks for laundry day!
The Princess Bride
Since The Princess Bride is probably the best book-to-movie adaptation of all time, it tops the list. The movie is funny, sweet, charming, and quotable. I would do laundry all day if I could watch this movie while doing it!
The best thing about the Harry Potter movies is that there are eight of them. This means you’ll have plenty of movie content to do all your laundry for about eight weeks (depending, of course, on how much laundry you have to fold).
There are several movie adaptations of Wuthering Heights, but my favorite for folding laundry is the Masterpiece Theater version, because 1, it’s a bit longer, and 2, it’s a bit over-the-top. Kind of like my laundry pile.
Gone with the Wind
Speaking of over-the-top movies, Gone with the Wind belongs on every laundry-do-ers book movie list. It even has dressmaking, which fits with the laundry theme. I wish I could say, “As God is my witness, I’ll never do laundry again!”
Sense and Sensibility
As full disclosure, Sense and Sensibility ranks as my second least-favorite Jane Austen book (Emma is my least favorite, if you are curious). However, Sense and Sensibility is just begging to be watched during a laundry session. Maybe it’s all the white dresses that look like laundry bobbing on the line, or maybe it’s all the crying (which is all I feel like doing when I have to fold laundry), but you cannot go wrong watching this movie on laundry day.
The Devil Wears Prada
This is an entire movie about clothes. Enough said.
Bridget Jones’s Diary
Poor Bridget is always one step away from disaster, just like my laundry pile. Are these clothes clean, dirty, someone else’s? It is as difficult to decipher as it is for Bridget to choose her boyfriend.
A Room with a View
Well, this movie has Helen Bonham Carter before she got weird, and plenty of shirtless men (maybe they are doing their laundry?). It’s the perfect laundry-day flick.
Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory
Do not, Do NOT, watch the horrible 2006 massacre of a Chocolate Factory movie instead of this one. Willy Wonka is the only Daily Mayo-approved Chocolate Factory because no one in the world can top Gene Wilder. I watch this movie because I love it, which makes the pain of laundry a bit more bearable.
The Hunger Games
Sometimes I feel like I have my own Hunger Games adventure trying to get my kids to put away their laundry or to get my husband to un-knot his socks before tossing them in the dirty clothes hamper. As a four-part movie, The Hunger Games will keep you occupied for a month of laundry.
I believe in sappy, campy movies and I love them with all my heart. Twilight is both. Every laundry folding adventure needs an equally epic eternal love story to back it.
The Time Traveler’s Wife
The Time Traveler’s Wife is one of my favorite books but it is incredibly depressing. The movie version is like TTW light. It is a sweet story without the gut-wrenching pain that makes you want to curl up into a ball and sob for days. That might get in the way of your laundry goals.
