Please Note: This Breaking Bad Anne of Green Gables mashup is meant to be light-hearted, so please don’t take offense. Anne of Green Gables has been and will always be one of my favorite stories of all time. Scroll to the bottom of the post to link up with this week’s Lit Lovers Link Party!
By now, if you haven’t heard that Anne of Green Gables is set for a re-boot in Canada in 2017 you probably haven’t been online since November. Of course, true fans will know that Anne was originally 11 in the books, not 13 like the article says, but potatoes potatoes.
For the few of you who might not know, Breaking Bad producer and Canadian-native Moira Walley-Beckett is set to produce the new Anne series. I could not be more excited about this, although she does mention wanting to “chart new territory” to make it more interesting for young viewers, and I’m not sure what that means. In a press release, Ms. Walley-Beckett said,
“Anne’s issues are contemporary issues: feminism, prejudice, bullying and a desire to belong. The stakes are high and her emotional journey is tumultuous.” I could see her making Anne’s story dark, but ultimately, I hope she brings Anne’s hopefulness to forefront of the story, since her eternal optimism made her who she was (that and her ADHD).
Honestly, I cannot wait to see where Anne goes in the new millennium, but it will be nigh-impossible to find a more attractive Gilbert than Jonathan Crombie.
The Ultimate Breaking Bad Anne of Green Gables Mashup
If Ms. Walley-Beckett is feeling overwhelmed by taking on Anne, I am taking a moment to remind her that she doesn’t have to start from scratch. In fact, many of the plotlines and script lines from Breaking Bad can apply to Anne of Green Gables. Don’t believe me? Check it out for yourself:
When Matthew explains how he adopted Anne.
When Anne just can’t take being called carrots any longer.
When Diana shows she has earned her ditz status.
When Gilbert refuses to get over Anne.
When Diana had just a bit too much to drink and puked in the bushes.
When Josie Pye explains why she doesn’t care for school.
When Gilbert finds that Annes plans to be Elaine of Astolat have gone horribly wrong.
When Rachel Lynde is just being herself.
When Marilla shows she is hard as nails.
When Anne realizes she can’t do anything when Gilbert is sick and has loved him all along.
