Now that school has started (or is about to start soon) for the year, I have no more use for summer. I’m really for fall! In browsing through these fall-themed quotes, I read so many amazing passages about the best feelings of fall- the damp, yet crunchy leaves coating the ground, boots and scarves, the slightly moldy, earthy smell of rain and wind, the honk of geese traveling south- and above all, the crisp feeling and bright sky signaling that cold weather is just around the corner. These quotes made me so ready for the upcoming cool weather!
My daughter, Monkey, is also looking forward to fall. Today was about 100 degrees, but she insisted on wearing long-sleeves and leggings. Lucky for her, she didn’t have to leave the house today.
I love how all these authors have either an intense love or an intense hate for the fall season. Fall, it seems, demands a strong opinion. No room for lukewarm feelings about this time of year.
For your viewing pleasure, here are seven great quotes about autumn and fall from famous authors.
“I loved autumn, the one season of the year that God seemed to have put there just for the beauty of it.”
― Lee Maynard
“The tints of autumn…a mighty flower garden blossoming under the spell of the enchanter, frost.”
― John Greenleaf Whittier
“Delicious autumn! My very soul is wedded to it, and if I were a bird I would fly about the earth seeking the successive autumns.”
― George Eliot
“It was a beautiful bright autumn day, with air like cider and a sky so blue you could drown in it.”
― Diana Gabaldon
“I am made for autumn. Summer and I have a fickle relationship, but everything about autumn is perfect to me. Wooly jumpers, Wellington boot, scarves, thin first, then thick, socks. The low slanting light, the crisp mornings, the chill in my fingers, those last warm sunny days before the rain and the wind. Her moody hues and subdued palate punctuated every now and again by a brilliant orange, scarlet or copper goodbye. She is my true love.”
― Alys Fowler
“There is something in the autumn that is native to my blood—
Touch of manner, hint of mood;
And my heart is like a rhyme,
With the yellow and the purple and the crimson keeping time.”
― Bliss Carman
“October, baptize me with leaves! Swaddle me in corduroy and nurse me with split pea soup. October, tuck tiny candy bars in my pockets and carve my smile into a thousand pumpkins. O autumn! O teakettle! O grace!”
― Rainbow Rowell

Books to Read before their Fall/Winter Movies Come Out
Love the autumn quotes. Every fall I update my FB status every day with quotations about fall–I may be borrowing some of these!
Go right ahead!
Hey there! Thanks for featuring me, I feel so special 🙂 Autumn is fast approaching, loving this quotes! Now I just need some pumpkin chocolate chip cookies 🙂
I’ve never had chocolate pumpkin cookies. Now I have something new to try!
This is great 🙂 Looking forward to future Quote me Thursdays now that I know about this linkup.
I can’t wait for Autumn either. One of my favorite books is sort of a play on words – When Autumn Leaves – it’s about witches. I love witch books, lol. But, I do love that quote by Diana Gabaldon about the air like cider. What a great way to put into words that crisp fresh smell of fall turning to winter.
I thought it was a beautiful description, too! I like When Autumn Leaves. 🙂
I am really sorry but i don’t think your post fits with the Parenting #pinitparty so i will be unable to pin your post to the board.
Wonderful quotes, they all are written so well and embrace the mood of Autumn. I love Autumn too.
I’ve been looking for a good book blog link-up. Found you on TX Women Bloggers, and I’m so glad I did. My book blog is only a few months old so I will be linking up for sure!
Hooray! The more the merrier!
I know I ‘m in the minority, but I always hate to say goodbye to summer! I have one more beach trip before I’m over it. But I do love fall, too and love the fall quotes you shared!
I like summer, but by the end of a Texas summer, I can’t say I am sorry to see it go at all. 🙂
All these Autumn quotes make me wish and dream i’d wake up tomorrow and have to grab a sweater!
Me too! We can’t really wear sweaters here until November. It makes me sad.
What a lovely preview to the upcoming change of season!
I love October! (Of course it’s also my birth month.) 😉 While I love shorts and tanks, today I’m with your daughter–I’m wearing jeans.
Great quotes!! I can appreciate them, as fall is my favorite season. 🙂
So happy you quoted Diana Gabaldon! One of my favorite authors 🙂 yes, fall is the perfect time 🙂
They really are nice quotes but I am a total summer girl. 🙂 Fall is beautiful but it means that winter is coming. 🙁
