Book: Highland Blessings
Author: Jennifer Hudson Taylor
Year Published: 2010
Genre: Christian Romance
Overall Rating: 3 stars
Target Audience: Women and teens
Setting: The late 1400s in Scotland
Characters: Two rival clans, one side is the MacPhearsons and the other is the MacKenzies. The main character is a young woman named Akira MacKenzie. She has several brothers, and the love interest is Bryce MacPhearson.
Plot: For years, two rival clans have fought in Scotland. 10 years ago, the two clan chiefs made a pact to allow their children to marry to end the war. The only problem is, one of the chiefs died and the other doesn’t want to honor the deal. The younger brother, Bryce, takes on the task of kidnapping his brother’s betrothed and bringing her to the castle to force her to marry his brother.
Thoughts: This book is kind of fun. I would have liked to see it a little more fleshed out. In it’s current state, everything happens suddenly and without much explanation. I would have preferred to see maybe 200 additional pages to give the book more meat and background. But overall, this book is enjoyable in a lighthearted way, even through it deals with death and feuds.
