Book: Mixed Signals
Author: Liz Curtis Higgs
Year Published: 1999
Genre: Inspirational romance
Overall Rating: 3 stars
Target Audience: Women and teens
Setting: 1999, as far as I can tell.
Characters: Belle the main character, Norah supporting, Patrick the love interest, David the love interest, and some minor characters
Plot: A 32 year old woman has a career in radio. Her radio station suddenly switches to sports, so she decides to go to a new radio station with her old crush Patrick. While there, she meets Norah, David, and a few other people and must choose her romantic future as well as her spiritual one.
Thoughts: I think this was Higgs’ first story. It sounds much different than her other, later books. I love her writing style in her more recent stories, but this one, while still done well, is more similar to what you find in other inspirational romances. I suppose, for another writer, I would think this a good attempt, but for Higgs, I expected more. I also thought this book was set in the past, and I was a little disappointed that it was a modern story. Overall though, it’s not too bad.
