Crossed is the sequel to the book Matched.
In the first book, Cassie must decide between two boys she is matched with, one who will allow her to rest comfortably in society and one who is an outcast. In Crossed, the plot is slightly different.
Author: Ally Condie
Year Published: 2011
Genre: YA romance/adventure
Overall Rating: 3 stars
Target Audience: Teen girls
Romance: A love triangle between Cassia and her two admirers
Setting: The future where art and music are suppressed by a cruel and ridged society
Characters: Cassia and Ky narrate the story. Xander is another main character.
Plot: Cassia chose to work in an outer-lying province on her path to adulthood. She wants to find Ky and help him fight the society. Ky is mostly trying to stay alive, as he is an outcast. As Cassia gets more involved, she must choose whether to go back to her safe life with Xander or choose a life of adventure and suffering with Ky.
Thoughts: This book seems less interesting than the first one. I find the characters hard to follow and the plot disconnected and rough. It almost feels like this book was released while still in rough draft. The plot is still interesting, although it wasn’t enough to hold my attention in one setting. It took me about a month to read the book all the way through.
