This book is about a young boy and his mother who live with a group of scientists (?) who study them for various reasons around 1700. Other than that I am not sure about what the rest of the book is like because I have tried to read this book twice, and both times I could not finish it. After reading about 100 pages, the fact that the story did not pick up and that there were at least 400 other pages to read, I grew disinterested in finishing the book.
Obviously, I didn’t really like this story. The introduction was not interesting to me, and I could not tell where the story was going. I was rather disappointed, because the book seemed well-reviewed in other places and I think won a few awards.
The story is written in the old style that you would find from a book written in the 1800s. It is largely narrative and has long paragraphs. While I’m sure the book is very well written and has interesting and insightful subject matter, I could not get into the story at all. For this reason I give the book only two stars out of five.
Maybe the next time I try to read through the book I’ll be able to finish.
